In space, no one can hear you not caring

Alternity Megatron, the Samurai sports-car.

Alternity_MegatronTakara Tomy’s Alternity line continues with the release of the Nissan Fairlady Z as the evil Megatron.

Like Convoy, Megatron will be made in 3 colors. Blade Silver, Lemans Blue, and the upcoming Diamond Black. Megatron’s design is less complex than Convoy which is honestly not a bad thing considering these toys are the size of your average DX class TF. One thing that did annoy me was the lack of die-cast. Megatron is missing that all important “heft” that Convoy had.

A sleek sports car, it’s actually a nice change of pace for Megatron. I was getting tired of tanks. Megatron was also denied his Binaltech/Alternators release.

Rubber wheels are always a nice touch.

The doors have a strange double joint that makes them a little awkward to open.

A very tiny, but sharply tempra-painted Failady Z logo.

Megatron is less complex than Convoy, but his parts don’t fit as nicely.

Man I love this line.

Stars am so Shine! Make shine for you?

-Bot-mode-

Megatron ditches the arm cannon in favor of  swords.

Megatron almost has a Samurai look to him.

The simpler legs give Megatron a much greater range of movement.

Extra flip-out blades. It’s nice that he came with some real weapons, unlike Convoy’s lame seat-warmer blasters.

It would have been a little nicer if Megatron and Convoy didn’t have such similar transformation designs.

Convoy’s odd lower legs makes for a difficult time posing.

-Score-

Aesthetics: 4.5 -Megatron looks sweet in his new Samurai armor, but the vehicle mode suffer from bad part fits. Strangely enough there’s no Decepticon errr …Destron faction symbol on him.

Quality: 3.5 -Loose elbow joints and the a fore mentioned, bad part fit, hurts his score here. Otherwise the paint app. is very well done (both color versions)

Pose-ability: 3 -The legs enjoy more freedom than Convoy, but the arms are just as restricted, and of course no waist joint.

Transformation: 4 -Even though it’s almost the same as Convoy’s, the transformation is well planned and makes good use of the car’s size and shape to give Megatron great proportions.

Features: 2.5 -It takes more than an opening hood and doors to score well here. One  the bright side, he actually comes with weapons. But sadly that’s over shadowed be the lack of die-cast.

Overall: 3.5 -It’s a great toy, don’t get me wrong (seriously I bought two and plan to get the 3rd). It’s just a few minor grips hurt the overall score. Maybe this will be the toy that makes me come up with a new scoring criteria. It’s certainly worth purchasing if you liked Convoy. The lack of die-cast is a little upsetting considering the price tag. Also the part fit on the car could be nicer, lets hope Bumble Bee gets things back on track.
